Bye, Bye Cable
Last week I got rid of Cable. Now I only pay for services that allow me to pick the shows I want to watch when I want to watch them. Cable was just too much money for too little value. Plus, I don’t need to spend hours each week flipping through channels hoping to find something good on. Let me spend my time doing something more worthwhile.
As for my setup I have a Samsung SmartTV, with a shitty user interface, that connects to Hulu Plus and Netflix. That takes care of all the major shows the lady and I enjoy watching. Combined total for those services? About $17 a month. I also have an AppleTV and we rent movies and buy season passes to shows not available on Hulu and Netflix. This year that will save us over $1,000. Not too bad, but more importantly we found that it has helped us spend our time doing more enjoyable things like vacuuming and picking up my clothes. Or maybe those are the things she tells me I need to enjoy.
Sitting down to watch TV just because it was there was too common of an excuse for me to be lazy. I can veg out by writing, reading a book, or having a discussion with the lady. I feel better afterwards as well.
So long cable, I won’t miss you for a second. Want me to give up my Internet for a year? Only if you plan on living in a casket for the same amount of time.
